Leona leads going into final day

The competition heads into final day on Sunday.

Cavan golfer Leona Maguire is top heading into the final day of the Women's PGA Championship at Baltusrol in New Jersey.

She's -7 for the weekend, and -2 for the day, in the lead ahead of South Korea's Jenny Shin.

The lead follows Leona's fantastic victory in the Meijer Classic last week, as she bids to add her name to an illustrious list of golfers to win a major after winning the previous event. Others include Nelly Korda, Lydia Ko, Inbee Park, Jiyai Shin, Yani Tseng.

The Ballyconnell native was in scintillating form to win the Meijer Classic last Sunday.

Leona looked both confident and comfortable heading into the back nine in the Third Round at Baltusrol.

An impressive run of pars helped her keep distance between her and the rest of the chasing pack.

A crucial birdie on the 18th to put daylight between Leona and the chasing pack.

Shin had put pressure on Leona scoring five birdies to climb to the top alongside Leona, before entering the clubhouse with final score of 66.

Leona finished the day on 69. Incredibly she has carded in the 60's in all seven of her last PGA rounds.

Northern Ireland's Stephaine Meadows is one shot behind her former Solheoim Cup playing partner Leona and Shin heading into the last day of matchplay.
