Crux for Cavan Calling

Concert at Urney Church, July 29.

The acclaimed vocal ensemble Crux have been added to the Cavan Calling line-up, performing an intimate concert at Urney Church Farnham Street, Cavan on Saturday, July 29 at 1pm with guest soprano Eileen Coyle.

Cavan Calling takes place at venues across the county from 26 – 30 July, with an exciting line-up of events including a concert by The Boomtown Rats, fireworks display, street carnival, food market, military show, genealogy conference, and much more. The event also coincides with Cavan GAA’s celebrations marking 100 years of Kingspan Breffni.

Crux Vocal Ensemble was founded by Paul McGough to interpret old music for new audiences, with a focus on Medieval and Renaissance chant and polyphony. The group varies in size and number, depending on the event; a blend of male and female voices, sometimes instruments too.

Based at the beautiful Saint Mary's Church on Haddington Road Dublin 4, Crux sings an early-music mass twice per month. Crux is also active in the TV/film industry, appearing in several movies and in many seasons of the History Channel show, ‘Vikings’.

A native of Cavan, soprano Eileen Coyle is a graduate of the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Eileen’s curiosity around the voice has developed her career through both solo and ensemble work, from Classical (e.g. the Lassus Scholars, Christchurch Cathedral Dublin) to lighter, pop and jazz influenced performances. Her versatile vocals have seen her perform around Europe and further, invited to many collaborations and released two solo albums.

This intimate show is sure to be a highlight of what promises to an exciting few days in Cavan this July.
