Fish kill investigation continues

Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) have confirmed that investigations continue over an apparent pollution incident which killed approximately 150 fish.

In an update, Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) said the incident on the Cavan Town River occurred downstream from the bridge at the roundabout junction.

"Approximately 150 dead trout of various year classes were confirmed by IFI staff and water samples were taken as part of an ongoing investigation," a spokesperson said.

"The suspected source of pollution was stopped shortly after IFI staff arrived on site.

"Follow up observations by staff have confirmed good numbers of trout to be still present in what is a very productive nursery habitat for brown trout."
