Schools should use renewable energy - Cllr

Councillors are encouraging schools across Cavan to use renewable energy power.

The motion was raised by Fine Gael Councillor T.P. O’Reilly who believes “solar panels could be purchased through the remedial fund”.

The Virginia man highlighted the environmental benefits of such an initiative, but also said it would educate today’s youth in the energy source.

Cllr O’Reilly also believed other buildings “taken up by the educational board”, should channel renewable sources.

His party colleague, Cllr Winston Bennett, agreed saying children would also bring their knowledge of the energy source home to their parents.

Cllr Carmel Brady (FG) also contributed to the debate, stating the ETB is currently in the process of offering renewable energy sources to schools. “It is in motion at the moment”.

Cathaoirleach Philip Brady (FF) also supported the motion stating “school is the best place to start anything”.
