Plans to build houses in Belturbet

Tenders have been issued in respect of plans to build nine houses in Belturbet Town.

Planning permission was granted back in February to demolish six existing single-storey dwellings known as Widow’s Row, and to develop a residential scheme, together with off-street parking and connections to the existing public sewerage system.

The development will consist of one two-bed semi-detached bungalow; five two-bed semi-detached, two-storey dwellings; and one three-unit, one-bed, three-storey dwelling.

A deal to buy the derelict properties adjacent to the Fay Crescent was struck back in 2021. The properties were previously owned by the representative body of the Church of Ireland.

A Chief Executive’s report on the project determined that the proposed development would be “good use” of a “brownfield site” where the buildings have been derelict for some time.

It is estimated that work on the housing project won’t take place until at least the third quarter of 2023. The deadline for tenders is early September.
