A busy day ahead for Heritage Week

Today's Heritage Week fare includes art, nature, football and crafts - what more can you ask for?

A Geopark Heritage Treasure Trail runs at Turbet Island, Belturbet from 1-4pm

Before setting of on your Heritage Treasure Hunt, meet Geopark staff at Turbet Island to collect your Heritage Treasure Hunt Booklet.

Follow the map provided in the booklet to make your way around the self-led, 1.6km, easy terrain trail, answering the clues set out along the way. Once you have finished, don’t forget to return to Geopark staff to collect your treasure.

The Living Heritage Craft exhibition is running throughout this week at Bailieborough Library, and is open today, 17 August, from 10am - 8:30pm

Bailieborough has a rich pool of crafters creating all kinds of objects from textiles, wool, wood and more and the organisers hope to put a shining light on to some heritage craft practices.

The exhibition and demo day (Saturday) will showcase a variety heritage crafts where visitors can watch crafters at work and try some crafts for themselves and maybe they will be inspired to start a new creative hobby. So head along to the library at Market House, Bailieborough (A82 RH73) and be inspired.

John Halton's exhibition Cuisle Bhreifne (Pulse of Breifne) refers to the pulsing rhythm of Gaelic Culture and local landscape of Breifne. Stemming from a love of culture and nature, this exhibition comprises of Gaelic wood carvings, photography of local nature scenes and large intricate watercolour illustrations depicting local legends and landscapes fused with ancient Gaelic designs.

Cuisle Bhreifne is launched this evening Thursday, August 17, 7:30- 9:30pm at Cavan County Museum, Ballyjamesduff.

This evening there is also a history lecture by George Cartwright on the Gallant John Joe O'Reilly 1918-1952 titled Cavan's Millennium Man.

The talk will no doubt be well attended and takes place at the Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Centre (Old St. Patrick's College Building) The Conaty Centre, Cullies, Cavan Town (H12 E5C7) this evening from 7:30-9:30pm
