Raymond Galligan will be the new Cavan senior football team manager, the Anglo-Celt can reveal.

The county board management committee met this evening and will propose Galligan for ratification by the clubs, which will be a formality.

Galligan’s backroom team includes former Footballer of the Year Stephen O’Neill of Tyrone as forwards coach and selector. Gowna native Eamon Murray, who managed the Meath ladies to huge success, is Assistant Manager.

Mayo man James Burke (who coached the team last season) is listed as Head Coach and selector while Killygarry’s Damien Keaney is also a selector.

Also included in the set-up is athletics legend Catherina McKiernan, who is in the role of Life Coach.

Castlerahan’s Ronan Flanagan is Player Liaison Officer. Gary Rodgers returns as Goalkeeping coach.

Lacken Celtic clubman Galligan, who captained the team from 2019 till the end of this season, was a surprise nominee for the position following Mickey Graham’s resignation. The 36-year-old captained Cavan to the Ulster Championship in 2020 and played over 100 games for the county, first as a forward and then a goalkeeper, winning an All-Star award in 2020.

He captained his home club to an Intermediate Championship title and is still lining out as a forward, scoring 2-6 against Gowna last weekend.
