Cannonball run returns to Cavan

Cannonball, the action-packed supercar spectacle, is set to roll back into Cavan next month, with an official stop planned at Ballyconnell's Slieve Russell Hotel.

It is the first time the event has returned to Cavan since it last passed through the eastern part of Cavan, however briefly, back in 2021.

The three-day super car trip attracts over 200,000 spectators with free family festivals all over the country every year and has now raised more than €1.5 million for worthy Irish charities.

This year the official charity of Cannonball, which travels coast to coast from September 15-17, is the Jack and Jill Children's Foundation.

The cavalcade of 190 supercars and celebrities will pull into Cavan for its first official pit-stop on Friday, September 15, at 1pm until approximately 2:30pm.

The trip will start from Dublin's Malahide Castle that morning, with the first finish line and overnight stay in Ballina to coincide with celebrating the Mayo town's 300th birthday.

On Saturday, September 16, the convoy will leave the quay in Ballina at 10:30am and travel to the Salthill Hotel, Co Galway, for lunch at 1pm, and then onwards to Pery Square, Limerick City, for the second finish line and overnight stay in association with Limerick City and County.

On Sunday, September 17, the super cars will leave Limerick City at 10:30am, fuel up at Circle K Fermoy, and then travel onwards to Cork for lunch at Fota Island Resort before a big dramatic final finish line in Kilkenny City at 6pm.

In 2021, the Cannonball stopped in Cavan, much to the delight of onlookers, en route to Slane Village in neighbouring Co Meath, before finishing up in Belfast.

In 2019 Cavan super car fans got a proper chance to see everything from McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, Maserati, Rolls Royce and Bentleys as they roared to a checkpoint, again at the Slieve Russell Hotel, all the while taking in stops along the Wild Atlantic Way, Hidden Heartlands and Ireland’s Ancient East.

Drivers even stopped off much to the delight of young pupils at Aughadreena National School near Stradone.
