38 from Cavan among 3,000 to get citizenship

A total 38 people with a registered address in Cavan were among the more than 3,000 new citizens granted Irish citizenship in three separate ceremonies.

Minister for Justice Helen McEntee TD welcomed the granting of Irish citizenship in three separate ceremonies in the Convention Centre in Dublin on October 2.

Along with 38 people from Cavan granted Irish citizenship, there were 24 from Monaghan, eight from Leitrim, 20 from Longford, 139 from Meath, and two from neighbouring Fermanagh.

The Ceremonies saw applicants from 131 countries around the world and living in all 32 counties on the island of Ireland conferred as Irish citizens.

The top 10 nationalities included India (421), United Kingdom (254), Brazil (181), Poland (169), Nigeria (153), Romania (143), Philippines (137), Pakistan (128), China including Hong Kong (85), and South Africa (80).

The Citizenship Ceremonies were part of a series of events that have seen over 11,000 people conferred with citizenship this year with further ceremonies planned before the end of 2023.

The Presiding Officer at the ceremonies was retired Judge Bryan MacMahon, who administered the Declaration of Fidelity to the Irish Nation and Loyalty to the State.

The new Irish citizens also undertook to faithfully observe the laws of the State and to respect its democratic values.
