Dark comedy set for Tullyvin

Show runs from Tuesday to Saturday, October 17 to 21.

Tullyvin Musical Society will present the darkly hilarious Broadway hit comedy 'Little Shop of Horrors' for a five-night run from Tuesday to Saturday, October 17 to 21 in Tullyvin Community Centre, Cootehill.

Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of downtrodden flower shop assistant Seymour on his quest to win over the love of his life, his co-worker, Audrey. A total eclipse of the sun and a scheming man-eating plant threatens his dream and takes over Seymour’s life. The plant, named Audrey II, given the right food, promises to drag this former street kid out of the gutter and into the arms of the woman he secretly loves, bringing him fame and fortune along the way.

The music and characters in Little Shop of Horrors make for an exciting show and with a live orchestra each night audiences are guaranteed to be bopping along in their seats!

Howard Ashman and Alan Menken are the creative team behind 'Little Shop of Horrors'. One little known fact is the song, 'Somewhere that’s Green' sung by Audrey in the show, heavily influenced Ariel’s song 'Part of your World' in Disney’s The Little Mermaid!

With a cast and crew of over 30 involved in this, Tullyvin Musical Society's sixth production promises to be the a visual treat. The principal cast include Colm Shalvey as Seymour, Emily Smith as his love interest, Audrey. Paul “Nippy” Norton takes the role of the money-hungry florist Mr. Mushnik, while Liam Wallace takes on a mammoth role providing both the voice of Audrey II and the role of Orin, the sadistic dentist. Alanna Pepper (Crystal), Scarlett McCormack (Chiffon) and Emma McKeown (Ronette) star as the charismatic Ronettes who narrate the show.

This year’s production is directed by Paul “Nippy” Norton, who returns after a sell-out production last year of “The Addams Family”, the Musical director is Dave McGauran and Choreographer is Julianne McNamara, with Astra O’Leary reprising the role of Dance Captain. The props for this year’s show are unlike anything audiences have seen from the Tullyvin Musical Society before. According to TVMS Chairperson, Pamela McCormack, seeing the way Audrey II comes to life on stage is not to be missed.

“A key feature of this musical is a scary and imposing-looking plant, and we are delighted to have four creative man-eating plant props, each bigger and better than the last.

“Operating these plants for us is Stephen Hannigan who has been working hard backstage with the plants to be ready for the live performances. With live feedings on stage, these plants really need to be seen to be believed!”

She added: “This exceptionally talented cast promises to be as fierce and bold and exciting as the enormous man-eating plant about to take over The TVMS stage.”
