Electric Vehicle Information Evening at Doran Motors

Dorans Looking after your motoring needs, now and into the future

Doran Motors is hosting an information evening on Electric Vehicles (EVs) next Thursday, October 19 at 7pm. The special event will take place at their showrooms on the Kingscourt Road, Carrickmacross. The evening is for those considering the switch to an electric vehicle.

Motorists are increasingly turning to EVs as car manufacturers remain committed to new models. This means that consumers’ hands may be tied, in future, when it comes to purchasing a new vehicle.

“This is a free event offering genuine information on electric vehicles and their management,” explained Carol Kerr, sales director of Doran Motors, who said that the public have a lot of fears and questions about electric vehicles.

Range anxiety

“The incorporation of electric vehicles into our lifestyles is a huge undertaking for many of us,” she said.

“We are accustomed to our diesel and petrol cars and find it hard to imagine driving and managing an electric vehicle. There is also the worry of range anxiety and a fear that there are not enough fast charging points locally to supply our needs as a community. These concerns have prompted the initiative to organise an evening where the relevant experts can give the people the information, they need to inform the right decision for their family’s motoring needs,” outlined Ms Kerr.

Throughout the evening, there will be a chance to look at the range of electric cars from Doran Motors trusted brands - Hyundai, Skoda, and Citroen. Sales executives will describe the features of each car and Doran’s master technicians will explain the battery ranges and the recommended servicing, which is needed to maintain the lifespan of the vehicle.

Home charging points

Ms Kerr says that information will also be provided about adapting homes to be ready for electric vehicles.

“If you are considering purchasing an EV, it is a wise decision to install a home charging point as it will significantly reduce the issue of finding public charging points,” she explained.

“There is also a grant available to the public to help with the costs of fitting and buying a home charging unit. A representative from Ohme will be with us on the evening to clarify the details of the grant and the types of chargers available. We will also have local electrician Mattie Cahill from CMac Electrical, who will explain how your home electric supply can be adapted to suit the home charging unit. A spokesperson for Local Power will speak about the winning combination that solar panels and home charging systems can make to the EV owner,” added Ms Kerr.

Attendees will also hear testimonials from other motorist who made the switch to electric vehicles.

“We feel it is important that these testimonials are from our local community and can offer advice regarding ‘range anxiety’ and ‘charging points’,” explained the sales director.

“We have some customers on our database who are driving an electric vehicle and are very happy with their mileage range and of course their savings.”
