John Clancy of Butlersbridge passes away

His funeral mass will take place tomorrow.

John Clancy, a man well known in Butlersbridge and beyond, passed away yesterday.

John is widely remembered as the former owner of the Derragarra Inn, a restaurant which offered great employment to the people in the area.

Searching for different pastures, John closed the Derragarra and moved to the Big Apple with his son Shaun.

The duo opened Foleys, a baseball bar opposite the Empire State Building in New York where he was known as “Papa John”.

He then returned to his beloved Butlersbridge where he lived out the rest of his days.

John had a lot of interests which varied from writing books to helping establish the first Cavan International Song Contest.

He passed away peacefully in the loving care of his family and the staff at Cavan General Hospital.

Predeceased by his loving wife Angela, parents John and Myra , brothers Patsy and Kevin and sister Norah.

John was the devoted father of Shaun (Kristy), Angela (Chris), Sinead (Noel), Gareth (Shelia) and Norma (Hugh).

He will be deeply missed by his sisters Sr Teresa, Julia, sister-in-law Helen and his children and adored grandchildren, Ryan, Aisling, Emma, Caoimhe, Shauna, Cillian, Darragh, Oisín, Maia and Caelan and great grandchildren Leo and Nell, all his relatives and friends.

Reposing at Lakelands Funeral Home, Dublin Rd, Cavan (H12RF78) this evening, Friday from 6p until 9pm.

His remains will arrive at St. Aidan's Church, Butlersbridge on Saturday for funeral mass at 2pm followed by cremation at Lakelands Crematorium at 4 o'clock.

Family flowers only. Donations in lieu would be appreciated by the family to the Holy Family Special School.
