Council acknowledge the late Gerard McCaughey

Monaghan-born entrepreneur Gerard ‘Gerry’ McCaughey, best known as the founder of Century Homes with his father, Brian, brother Gary and business partner Jim McBride, was remembered by the members of Cavan County Council at their November monthly meeting.

Mr McCaughey died last month, on October 18, aged 60 years.

In 2005 Century Homes was sold to Kingspan for €98 million, with Mr McCaughey remaining on as chief executive of Century Kingspan for several years after.

Following the financial crash, he moved with his family to the United States and was involved in various start-up businesses including Entekra in 2017, an off-site timber frame building production company.

He stood as a candidate for the Progressive Democrats in Cavan-Monaghan at the 2002 General Election, but was not elected, having been eliminated in the fifth count with 1,131 votes.

Predeceased by his father Brian, he is survived by wife Sophie; children Bella, Max, Shane and Zach; mother Theresa; sister Anne and her husband Dominick; his brother Gary and his wife Terry; his uncle Brendan, niece Lara, relatives and many friends.

Mass took place in St MaCartan’s Cathedral, Monaghan last week, Monday, November 13, with burial of ashes afterwards in St Joseph’s New Cemetery, Latlurcan.

At the November meeting Independent Shane P O’Reilly asked that the council extend sympathies to Mr McCaughey’s family.
