Daily Brew a year on!
New Ballyconnell cafe celebrates anniversary.
When Lorraine Kennedy first opened Daily Brew one year ago next week it was borne out of an ambition to provide people in the town with a comfortable, relaxing, healthy and nutritious place to eat. She also set out to give locals a social outlet, a place to sit and chat.
It was during the pandemic, with so many people confined to a five kilometre radius of their home, that Lorraine saw the potential in transforming a once vacant retail premises into a new local eatery.
“There was so many people feeling lonely over Covid, I just thought there was a need for somewhere that people could come, nice and bright, get a friendly 'hello', have a cuppa and sit for a while and meet people. I think we've achieved that.” The response to Daily Brew, which bakes fresh and serves up signature 'soups of the day' alongside salubrious sandwiches, Lorraine says, has been “great”.
Customers flock daily from the town and even neighbouring counties. “People from all around call into us,” says Lorraine of her welcoming cafe, which is ideally located next to Kennedy's Spar, their neighbouring Home and Garden centre, and also close to so many other local services and amenities.
With on-site parking, the premises is also fully accessible and provides outdoor seating. So it's not hard to understand why Daily Brew has gone down such a treat.
As a mum herself, accessibility is something about which Lorraine was very conscious when planning the cafe.
“That we could open the back, that people with buggies or wheelchairs could get in without hassle, get out of the house for an hour and have a coffee. That was very important to us.”
