Library to host Andy O’Sullivan Exhibition

Cavan County Council’s Library Service, in association with Cavan County Council’s Historian-in-Residence programme, is hosting an exhibition about Andy O'Sullivan, titled, 'Andy O’Sullivan (1882-1923) - Cavan and the Revolutionary period’.

Andy O'Sullivan was born on May 14, 1882, the son of Michael O’Sullivan and Mary O’Sullivan (née Smith) and he grew-up on the O’Sullivan's 20-acre farm at Denbawn.

In the War of Independence, Andy served as an intelligence officer and during the Civil War he was a staunch republican who made the ultimate sacrifice for his beliefs.

He died on November 23, 1923, while on hunger strike. The historic material to go on display at Johnston Central Library will tell the story of his life.

This exhibition forms part of Cavan County Council’s Decade of Centenaries 2023 programme and is supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Decade of Centenaries 2012-2023 initiative.

The exhibition launched on Tuesday, December 12 in Johnston Central Library, Farnham Street, Cavan.
