Fire stations to host recruitment open days

Fire brigades across County Cavan will host recruitment open days and evenings in the coming fortnight to give prospective recruits a flavour of what a career as a retained firefighter entails.

Cavan County Fire Service is currently recruiting retained firefighters in all 10 stations in the county, and these open day sessions will give interested parties the opportunity to meet their local crew, view the station’s equipment and facilities, and ask any questions they may have about this exciting and dynamic career.

Open days/evenings will take place at each brigade’s respective fire stations on the following dates. If you are unable to attend at the date and time specified for your local station, please feel free to attend at a neighbouring station.

· Bailieborough: Tuesday, 16th January, 7pm – 9pm

· Ballyconnell: Thursday, 18th January, 7pm – 9pm

· Belturbet: Monday, 15th January, 7pm – 9pm

· Cootehill: Tuesday, 16th January, 6.30pm – 9.30pm

· Kingscourt: Saturday, 20th January, 2pm – 4pm

Retained firefighters live and work in their own communities and respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week, attending the station when alerted to an incident via a pager. Incidents attended can range from domestic, industrial, or wildfires, to road traffic collisions, ambulance assists, hazmat incidents, or rescues.

Retained firefighters must reside and work within five minutes’ drive of the station in order to ensure they can attend calls in a timely manner.

All eligible applicants will have to partake in a preliminary physical test, after which those who successfully complete that process will be invited to interview.

Working as a retained firefighter offers excellent training opportunities, career progression, and the chance to make a real difference in your local community.

Firefighters recruited as part of this campaign will also be able to avail of improved conditions including guaranteed minimum annual income of €18,050, and structured time off.

Men and women aged over 18 years old who are interested in an exciting career which allows you to challenge yourself while serving your local community, can apply today at www.cavancoco.ie/jobs
