Kinscourt students focus on cancer treatments

‘An investigated study into the many different usages of photocatalysis’ was presented in the Chemical, Physical & Mathematical category.

Lorna Hanratty and Roisin Lynch stated their project “is on the different usages of photocatalysts,” explaining “photocatalysts’ reactions can speed up because of the light”.

A large part of their research was based around the chemical reaction’s ability to treat cancer patients.

“We did photo dynamic therapy, which can be used to treat cancer, and it’s better than radiation because it doesn’t cause fertility problems and it can be used most of the time in the same area,” said Lorna.

The group also researched the photocatalysts’ effect in wastewater treatment and cleaning services.
