Update on Cashel Cross

The urgent need to progress the installation of road safety measures at Cashel Cross on the Ballinagh to Cavan Road, the scene of a number of serious road traffic accidents, was highlighted at the January Ballyjamesduff Municipal District meeting.

Fine Gael Councillor Winston Bennet queried when the works were due to commence.

Reporting back following the meeting, Cllr Bennett revealed: “The tenders have been signed for Cashel Cross and hopefully that will be starting in the next couple of months.”

In 2021, plans were unveiled for the installation of two right-turning lanes and a staggering of the road junctions coming onto the N55 at Cashel Cross.

Cllr Bennett first tabled the motion in early 2021 following a fatal crash, which claimed the lives of two people the previous year.

“It’s been a long time coming and I’m delighted, at last, it’s ready to rock and roll,” Cllr Bennett concluded.
