Call for more street lighting in Ballyjamesduff

Concerns regarding street lighting in Ballyjamesduff were flagged at a recent meeting of the Ballyjamesduff Municipal District.

Speaking to The Anglo-Celt following the meeting, Fine Gael Councillor Trevor Smith explained: “I had queries from residents on the Oldcastle Road about the quality of lights.”

The Ballyjamesduff man explained his concerns were based mainly on visibility on the Oldcastle Road as many pedestrians use that area.

“The council are in the process of updating your standard lights in towns, your street lighting. At the moment, about 70 percent of the lights have been replaced in Ballyjamesduff - predominantly in the housing estates,” he revealed.

Cllr Smith explained the Senior Executive Engineer told the meeting that the local authority is in the process of updating the remaining 30% of lights.

“They didn’t give a timeline,” he said.
