Changeable with rain and showers at times. That's the latest weather outlook from the national weather forecaster.

Generally cloudy today with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle along with areas of mist and fog. There is the continued chance of some spot flooding. Some bright or sunny spells will develop in the southwest this afternoon. Highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees generally, higher in parts of the south and southwest, reaching 9 or 10 degrees there. Light to moderate easterly or variable winds, fresher in the north.

Further outbreaks of rain or drizzle for a time in the north and scattered showers will affect southern areas. Drier and clearer elsewhere though with some fog developing. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees generally, continuing slightly milder in the south and southwest. Winds will be mostly light to moderate easterly or variable but fresher at times in the south and southwest.

Saturday will see showery outbreaks of rain in the south at first, extending over much of the country through the morning and afternoon with spot flooding possible. Dry intervals as well with some sunny spells. Later in the afternoon, scattered showers will begin to push in from the west. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in mostly light to moderate variable winds but with a fresher northwesterly wind developing in the southwest.

Showery outbreaks of rain will clear eastwards through Saturday, followed by clear spells and scattered showers, most frequent for Atlantic coastal counties. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees generally with mostly light to moderate westerly winds developing allowing for some fog patches to develop, but the winds will be fresher in the south and west.

Fog, frost and ice clearing on Sunday morning to leave a day of sunny spells and scattered showers, most frequent over the western half of the country where some of the showers will turn wintry. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in moderate to fresh west to southwest winds.

Scattered showers continuing in the north and Atlantic counties overnight on Sunday, with mostly dry and clear conditions elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees in moderate, occasionally fresh, west to southwest winds.

Sunny spells with showers will become widespread on Monday, with some wintry falls at times. Becoming drier during the evening. Highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds. Mostly dry overnight with just a few showers continuing in the northwest. Cloud will thicken from the south with rain and drizzle moving over southern areas later in the night. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees.

Generally dull on Tuesday with outbreaks of rain and drizzle over Munster and south Leinster. Drier further north with sunny spells and just a few showers possible. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly or variable breezes.

Further outlook: A good deal of uncertainty further ahead. Likely to remain changeable unsettled with further spells of rain at times.
