Cloudy start with some showers but brighter later

Weather update from Met Éireann

Mostly cloudy to begin today with scattered showers. Brightening up through the morning as showers become isolated, with sunny spells developing. In the southwest, however, increasing cloud with patchy drizzle will develop through the afternoon, and extending into other western fringes in the evening. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in light to moderate westerly winds, backing southerly and easing by the evening.

Cloud will thicken from the west tonight with patchy light rain and drizzle spreading up over the country. Turning misty or foggy in places. More persistent rain will move into the southwest and west towards morning. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees in light southerly winds, increasing moderate overnight.

A largely dry start in the east tomorrow but rain will spread countrywide through the morning and early afternoon. The rain will turn heavy in places but will ease off from the west later in the day. Quite breezy with moderate to fresh southerly winds, stronger near coasts. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees with winds moderating later.

Tomorrow night will bring further rain or showers, heavy in places. Mist and fog patches will form as southwesterly winds ease light. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees.

Further rain or showers in parts to begin on Sunday, but a drier day overall with scattered showers becoming isolated. After a cloudy start, spells of sunshine will gradually develop. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in light to moderate westerly winds. More rain is forecast for Sunday night.

Monday is expected to be a mostly dry day with a few well scattered showers. Some bright or sunny spells but a good deal of cloud in general. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12, mildest near the south coast, degrees in moderate westerly winds.

Another spell of rain is expected to move over the country later on Monday night and for a time on Tuesday. Turning drier and brighter on Tuesday afternoon. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees.

More rain is predicted for the mid-week period. Current indications suggest that the latter part of next week will be cooler, still unsettled and breezy or windy at times too.
