Cloudy, showery morning with sleet tomorrow night

Weather update from Met Éireann

Cloudy this morning with a band of rain extending southeastwards across the country. A clearance to sunshine and some well scattered showers will quickly follow from the northwest through the morning and early afternoon. The showers will mainly be in the north and west. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees with moderate to fresh and gusty southwest winds, strong at times in western coastal parts, veering westerly as the rain clears and decreasing mostly moderate. Winds will decrease light southerly this evening.

It will be mainly dry for a time tonight, but rain will spread from the southwest overnight, becoming heavy at times. Becoming rather windy too with southerly winds increasing fresh to strong and gusty. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees early in the night, coolest in the north.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, will start off cloudy and wet, with widespread rain, heavy at times. The rain will clear eastwards through the morning, with a scattering of showers following and some bright or sunny spells. Rather windy too, with fresh to strong southwest winds, veering westerly and generally easing later. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 or 14 degrees in the morning, but turning cooler though as the rain clears.

Showers from the west overnight Wednesday night will occasionally fall as sleet or snow. Lowest temperatures 1 or 2 degrees in mainly moderate southwest winds.

Sunshine and showers or longer spells of rain on Thursday, most persistent over the western half of the country, turning to sleet and snow at times. Highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest winds.

Thursday night will again be cold and frosty in places with showers mostly confined to western coastal areas.

A cold and showery day on Friday, with showers again turning to sleet and snow at times. Highest temperatures 5 to 7 degrees with moderate westerly winds.

The further outlook suggests the unsettled conditions will continue with the chance of frost at night ongoing.
