Becoming colder for the end of February and start of March with showers and spells of rain turning wintry at times.

Cloudy this morning with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading southeastwards across the country. The rain will clear by early afternoon, followed from the northwest by sunny spells and just well scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees. Moderate to fresh southwest winds will ease and veer northwesterly in the evening.

Tonight will start off dry and clear in light winds. Some frost is possible with lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees. It will turn milder and cloudier overnight with outbreaks of rain and patchy mist spreading eastwards across the country and southerly winds increasing moderate to fresh.

A dull and wet day on Wednesday with outbreaks of rain and drizzle turning patchier by afternoon. More persistent rain will move into the west and southwest in the evening. Some hill and coastal mist and fog will develop. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 in moderate to fresh south to southwest winds, strong at times near west and northwest coasts.

Rain will clear to the east early on Wednesday night, followed by clear spells and isolated showers. Turning colder with lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees in moderate to fresh westerly winds.

A cooler, blustery day on Thursday with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. Some showers of hail and sleet are possible, especially over high ground in western areas. Highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees in moderate to fresh and gusty westerly winds.

Cold with showery rain spreading from the west on Thursday night, turning heavy in some spots. The rain will fall as sleet at times with snow possible on high ground. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees with frost and ice forming in places. Moderate to fresh southwest winds will ease towards morning.

Friday will bring a cold start to March with sunny spells and scattered showers. Some showers may fall as hail or sleet, with a chance of snow on high ground. Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in moderate westerly winds, veering northwesterly later.

Saturday is expected to be a breezy day with sunny spells and scattered showers, possibly turning wintry in places. Highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees in moderate to fresh northwesterly winds.

Further outlook: Staying cold on Sunday with further wintry showers possible. Gradually turning milder next week but staying unsettled.
