Plans to build 67 apartments

A local development company is being asked for further information on plans to build a five-storey, 67-unit apartment block in Cavan Town.

Radar Investments Limited, Killeshandra, 'C/O Philip King', applied for planning permission for the proposed development at Friars Walk, Farnham Road, last December.

The “demolition of existing buildings” is being proposed, together with on-site and associated site clearance works; the creation of an access point to the lands from Farnham Road, along with the “construction of a bridge” to facilitate an internal access road to the lands for vehicles and pedestrians.

The proposed apartment block will comprise of 26 one-bed apartments, 33 two-beds, and eight three-beds units, all with balconies or ground floor terraces.

A decision had been due by mid-February but has now been put back.

The proposed development is one of several planned for the county town.

Last week Weststate Ltd was given the go-ahead to build 20 two-storey dwellings, adding to the existing Oldtown Manor estate.

Weststate, which has a company address at Carrickane, secured planning permission with 32 conditions attached.

The company was previously granted permission to build a new two-storey, split-level commercial unit at Oldtown, in close proximity to where there are already plans to build a 96-bedroom, two-storey nursing home.

Elsewhere, the Talbot Group has been given the green light to construct eight, semi-detached, single-storey, two-bed dwellings at Hillview Manor on the Kells Road in Kingscourt. A total of 27 conditions were attached to the permission.
