Over €1M in community funding announced for Cavan

€50M has been invested nationwide

€1.15M has been announced this morning for communities across Co Cavan. The funds will be awarded under the Community Recognition Fund which is focused on developing an array of projects to benefit towns and villages across the country. €50M has been invested nationwide.

Locally, the funding will be issued to Cavan County Council which will then utilise it to · develop and refurbish community or cultural facilities including play areas, walkways, parks, community and sensory gardens, allotments, and recreational areas; develop local club and sports facilities; enhance school and parish facilities open for use by all of the community after school hours; purchase equipment for local clubs, festivals, community events and organisations; provide transport infrastructure including community vehicles.

The funding is being allocated by the Department of Rural and Community Development. Minister Heather Humphreys says it represents the second tranche of funding under the scheme since its launch last year, bringing the total investment nationwide to €100M.

“Cavan County Council, in collaboration with local communities, will be funded to develop projects that will deliver long-term benefits to those living in the areas selected,” she added. “This is all about recognising the huge efforts and generosity shown by communities in welcoming families and people from other countries.

“This allocation will double the funding provided by my Department to €100M in supporting communities across the country who have responded to the humanitarian crisis in welcoming people from Ukraine and other countries.

“I know communities the length and breadth of the country have really stepped up to the plate in recent months and this funding is about ensuring that we can support their efforts in developing projects that will have lasting benefits for the communities themselves.”
