Bright spells and heavy showers, hail possible

Generally unsettled with rain or showers and blustery winds at times. Sleet possible on higher ground around midweek.

That's the latest weather outlook from Met Éireann.

This morning, rain in Leinster and Munster will spread westwards over Connacht and Ulster. This afternoon, bright spells and scattered heavy showers will follow form the south and east with hail and thunder possible. Highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees with moderate east to northeast breezes.

Early tonight, there will be clear spells and scattered showers, with longer spells of rain in the north. Later in the night, persistent rain will develop in the south and will move up over much of the country by morning. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees with moderate easterly winds becoming south to southeasterly.

Cold and blustery on Wednesday with widespread showers occasionally merging to longer spells of rain. Many of the showers will be heavy with hail and thunder possible, potentially falling as sleet on hills and mountains. Highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees. Moderate to fresh and gusty south to southeast winds.

Showers will become increasingly confined to coasts on Wednesday night with clear breaks developing. Blustery southeasterly winds will ease inland overnight. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees with a touch of frost possible.

A little less cool on Thursday, with a mix of sunny spells and showers. Some of the showers could still be heavy with an ongoing chance of hail and thunder. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees. Moderate to fresh and gusty southwesterly winds.

Showers becoming isolated on Thursday night with clear breaks developing. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees. Gusty southwesterly winds moderating inland, but continuing fresh to strong and gusty near coasts.

A mix of sunshine and showers again on Friday. Some of the showers could still be heavy with a continuing possibility of hail and thunder. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees. Moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds, strong on southern and western coasts.

EASTER WEEKEND: Remaining unsettled but becoming milder.
