Hundreds of homes without power after Storm Kathleen hits

Hundreds of homes across Cavan are without power this afternoon after storm force winds associated with Storm Kathleen caused damage to the electricity networks in the region.

There are several hundred homes near Belturbet affected, in the area of Dernaglush, with the restore time not expected until later evening, 8:45pm.

There are several other areas also out- around Tonylion near Kilnaleck, Aughakee, and Lackan Upper outside Ballinagh, as well as Kilquilly close to Ballyjamesduff.

West of Cootehill there are 27 houses without power at present, with the restore time expected around 4pm; and hundreds more in neighbouring counties too- in Monaghan, Leitrim, Longford and Meath.

ESB Networks teams are restoring power where safe to do so.

A Status Yellow wind warning is in place for the country until 8pm.

Met Éireann has also issued fresh Status Yellow wind warnings for five counties through to Sunday.

A warning for Donegal, Mayo and west Galway will be in place from 8pm tonight until 4pm tomorrow. The other warning will be in place for Waterford and Wexford for three hours from 4am tomorrow until 7am.
