Mainly dry week with some sunshine promised

Mainly dry until next weekend. Turning cooler. That's the latest outlook from the national weather forecaster.

Today will be largely dry. The best of the sunshine will be in Munster and Connacht. Cloud will extend across Ulster and Leinster this morning and further to the west and south this afternoon. Highest temperatures of 12 to 18 degrees, coolest in the north and mildest in the south with moderate northerly breezes.

Tonight will be mainly dry and mostly cloudy with a little patchy drizzle and mist. Clearer conditions will develop in Ulster and Leinster towards morning, Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees with light north to northwest breezes.

Tuesday will start off with a fair amount of cloud in Connacht and Munster and perhaps a little drizzle. Sunnier weather in Leinster and Ulster will extend to most areas by noon and will continue for the rest of the day. Highest temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees with moderate northerly breezes.

Tuesday night will be cold and mainly dry with clear spells and some patches of mist or fog. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees with light northwesterly breezes.

Wednesday will be largely dry with sunny spells and possibly a few isolated light showers. It will be cooler than previous days with highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees and light northerly breezes. Wednesday night will be cold with clear spells and with frost in places. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees.

Thursday will be cool and mainly dry. There will be a fair amount of cloud and a few showers, these most likely in the southwest. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees with light variable breezes. Thursday night will be cold with clear spells and with frost in places. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees.

Friday will continue cool and mainly dry with a mix of cloud and sunshine. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with light northerly breezes. Friday night will be cold with clear spells and with frost in places. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees.

The outlook for next weekend is uncertain. At the moment it looks like there will be a fair mount of dry weather on Saturday with a few showers. Sunday looks like being a cloudier day with outbreaks of rain. It will continue cool with temperatures of around 9 to 12 degrees.
