A week of fines and arrests for local gardaí

Gardaí in Cavan issued fines this week and engaged in a number of arrests following a busy week on the beat locally.

The Roads Policing Unit made a number of detections for exceeding the 100km speed limit along the N3 Cavan bypass on National Slowdown Day. Gardaí say fixed charge penalty notices have been issued in respect of the matter.

Meanwhile, one driver, having exceeded the speed limit, was tested for drugs along the roadside and subsequently tested positive for cocaine. He was arrested and conveyed to Cavan Garda Station where he was later charged to appear before the district court for alleged motoring offences.

On Sunday, during the Cavan v Tyrone game at Breffni Park, Gardaí stopped a car after they observed it being driven erratically close to the park. After speaking to the driver and inspecting the vehicle, they discoverd the man was driving without insurance and had no tax nor NCT on the car. Gardaí also carried out a roadside drug test, which returned a positive for cocaine, cannabis, opiates, benzos and methamphetamines. He was arrested and charged with a court date to follow.
