It is with regret that we note the following deaths from Counties Cavan and Monaghan over the past few days, as reported on RIP.ie

Jean Taaffe

(née Creegan)

Legga, Longford / Arva, Cavan

Jean Taaffe, née Creegan, Legga, Moyne, Co Longford. Saturday, May 11th, peacefully surrounded by her loving family in the wonderful care of the staff at Cavan General Hospital. Pre-deceased by her husband Jim and her baby son Mark. Sadly missed by her loving sons Christopher (Fiona), Raymond (Michelle) and Shane, daughters Marie Caffrey (Sean) and Joan Brady (Tomas), her adored 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, sisters, Sr. Kathleen, Tess, Eilish, Belinda, Philomena and Helena, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Lakelands Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Cavan, on Monday evening from 5.30pm-8.30pm. Requiem Mass on Tuesday at 12.00 noon in St Mary’s Church, Legga, Co Longford, with interment afterwards in Moyne Cemetery.

Patrick (Patsy) CLARKE

Swords, Dublin / Mullagh, Cavan

CLARKE, Patrick (Patsy) (Swords, Co. Dublin & formerly of Mullagh, Co. Cavan) - May 10th, 2024 (peacefully) at Beaumont Hospital. Beloved husband of the late Helen. Sadly missed by his loving daughter Caroline, sons Gerard, Patrick and Raymond, son-in-law John, daughters-in-law Patricia, Eunice and Yvonne, grandchildren, great-grandson, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

May He Rest In Peace.

Reposing at Rock's Funeral Home, Swords on Monday (May 13th) from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Removal on Tuesday (May 14th) morning to St. Colmcille's Church, Swords arriving for 10 a.m. Mass followed by burial in adjoining cemetery. You can view the funeral Mass live on the church webcam here.

Steve Duggan

Ballyhaise, Cavan

Steve Duggan, New York and Miami and formerly Ballyhaise Co Cavan, died suddenly in Miami, Florida. Predeceased by his son David, sister Monica and parents John and Cathy.

Reposing at Lakelands Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Cavan, H12 RF 78, on Friday 17th, May from 5.00 pm - 8.00 pm. Requiem Mass at 11.00 am Saturday, 18th May, in St. Mary’s Church, Ballyhaise, Co Cavan. Interment afterwards in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Castletara.

Donal Kelly

Lisnahederna, Kingscourt, Cavan, A82 WC86 / Dundalk, Louth

The death has occurred of Donal Kelly, Lisnahederna, Kingscourt, Co. Cavan (A82 WC86) and formerly of Kilmurray, Mount Avenue, Dundalk, Co. Louth on Saturday, 11th May, 2024. Donal passed away peacefully at home, in the loving care of his devoted family. Deeply regretted by his loving wife Majella and adored son Joe. Sadly missed by his parents Don and Mary, brothers Paul, Eamon and Niall, sister Elaine, mother-in-law Olive, brothers-in-law Joe, Pete, Declan, Pauric, Kieran and Darren, sisters-in-law Catherine, Irene, Libby, Elaine, Kerry, Emer, Karen and Claire. Donal will be deeply missed by his much loved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and his many friends and neighbours.

Reposing at his residence (A82 WC86) on Monday, 13th May, from 3pm to 8pm and on Tuesday, 14th May, from 3pm to 8pm. House Private at all other times please. Removal on Wednesday morning, 15th May, to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt, for Funeral Mass at 10am, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Lucy Nelson

(née Boyle)

Leggimore, Carrickmacross, Monaghan

The death has occurred of Lucy Nelson (née Boyle), Leggimore, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, peacefully surrounded by her loving family at home, Saturday 11th May 2024. Predeceased by her parents Gerry and Teresa Boyle. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by her husband Martin, son Evin, daughter Alanna, brother Fergus, sisters Ann, Betty and Nuala, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Removal on Tuesday morning from her residence (Leggimore) driving to St. Joseph’s Church, Carrickmacross (A81 K253) to arrive for Requiem Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Carrickmacross.

Tommy Saunders

35 Cathedral Walk, Monaghan Town, Monaghan

Peacefully at Cavan General Hospital.

Predeceased by his wife Helen and his sister Lil Donoghue.

Sadly missed by his loving sons David (Beatrice) and T.J. (Holly), daughter Emma, grandchildren Lee and Raphaël, sisters Rosaline (Jimmy Treanor) and Maureen, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

May he rest in peace.

Reposing at his home on Monday (13/05/2024) from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. House private at other times please.

Removal on Tuesday (14/05/2024) at 10.15 a.m., arriving at St. Macartan’s Cathedral, Monaghan for funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

Burial afterwards in St. Joseph’s New Cemetery, Latlurcan, Monaghan.
