Nearly €450k in community climate action funding for Co Cavan

The allocation was announced this morning.

€439,000 in funding has been allocated to Co Cavan for a series of climate and biodiversity projects across the county. The funding is being delivered under the Community Climate Action programme, which supports projects that focus on building low carbon localities across the State.

The projects in Co Cavan that have emerged successful include Fairgreen Community Garden; Cavan Tidy Towns; Ballyhaise Development Association; Ballinagh Community Enterprise Association; Templeport Resource Centre Development; Drumavaddy Social & Development Committee; Drumgoon Community Centre Co-operative Society; Munterconnaught Community Development Association; Killeshandra Community Council; Crosserlough GFC; St Kilian's Heritage Centre; Crosserlough GFC; Kildallan GAA; Denn GAA Club; Lacken Celtic GFC; Redhills GAC; and Lavey GAA.

The funding will provide for solar panels, measures to promote active travel, biodiversity within numerous locations, water conservation, community gardens, a river walkway, energy efficient upgrades to community centres, the installation of water refill stations and measures to promote the circular economy.

Announcing the funding today, Minister for Rural & Community Development, Heather Humphreys highlighted her confidence in the benefits the funding will provide. “I warmly welcome this substantial allocation of funding to support climate and biodiversity projects in Cavan,” she continued.

“This funding will benefit so many worthy causes, from Tidy Towns groups to sports clubs and community organisations. I want to congratulate all the recipients of funding and look forward to seeing the projects come to fruition.”
