A 'yarn bomb' in Cavan town

Every year the County Federation of the Irish Country Women's Association 'yarn bomb' the railings at the Cavan County Council offices for International Women's Day.

In a decorative display, the women gather and adorn the railings, creating a viewing and talking point for those who pass by. International Women's Day will take place tomorrow (March 8).

"The council asked us last year and this year to keep it up for St Patrick's day," ICA member Anna Rose McCormack beamed, looking at the group's handiwork decorating the black railings.

"It'll be on display for that," the Killeshandra woman said.

With around 200 members in the Cavan branch of the organisation, highlighting the day is particularly important for this group of women. The vigil involved a lot of knitting, with twenty to thirty stitches per strip, taking around one evening to do one.

"Over the years I've done a good few," she laughed.
