The body of a man in his 30s was recovered from the River Lee in Cork last night after two swimmers got into difficulty.
It is understood the two men entered the water at Pope's Quay to swim to the other side of the river around 7pm.
One of the men made it out of the water safely and a search was launched by rescue teams for the other man whose body was later recovered from the river.
Victor Shine from Cork City Fire Brigade said it was a multi-operational rescue.
Mr Shine said: "Everybody was at that one. The Fire service got there first... the gardaí, ambulance, Crosshaven Coast Guard unit, and so on all arrived at the scene."
