Cavan Town water works to run until Autumn

When the current phase of nightworks to replace 1.5 kilometres of old water mains in Cavan Town finish later this month, efforts will then switch to daytime operations, which won’t then be completed until late Autumn at the earliest.

Confirmation of the extension was provided to The Anglo-Celt last week.

The current road closure works at the roundabout at the junction of Farnham Street, College Street and Railway Road have now been completed, and any nightworks “still progressing” under traffic lights will continue to mid/end May.

“Works are currently ongoing to replace 1.5km of old water mains in Cavan Town. The works are being carried out along the R212 (College Street) and the R198 (Railway Road),” said a spokesperson for the utilities provider.

“The works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, which has the aims of reducing the volume of clean drinking water being lost to leakage, reducing the risk of bursts, and providing a more reliable supply to Uisce Éireann’s customers.”

They added that once the nighttime works end in the County Town that daytime works will then kick in, and these are not “expected to be completed” until late Autumn 2025.
