Shercock road repairs urged

Cavan County Council management is being pressed on a timeline for road repair work to be started in Shercock.

Speaking at the Bailieborough Cootehill MD meeting last Friday, Clifford Kelly (FF) said Shercock Tidy Towns and other members of the public have contacted him to ask when the Main Street that runs past the local school will be resurfaced.

“It’s rough and it’s bad,” Cllr Kelly told the meeting, which was also attended by County Area Manager Clinton Mulligan and Director of Services Paddy Connaughton.

“People are saying that it’s not a good look for the town,” Cllr Kelly continued. He revealed he’s estimated to people that work could begin around July.

The Area Manager clarified: “Work will be done at the latest by November expenditure-wise.”

“We can’t do all roads at the same time but, the end of the summer is a possibility”.

When Niall Smyth (FF) remarked “it feels like Shercock is left out”; Mr Mulligan insisted this wasn’t the case.

“It’s on our roads programme. It comes back – as always – to resources. It’s just logistics, it has to be done in segments.”

Meanwhile, Cllr Kelly urged: “You’ll keep the potholes filled in the meantime.”
