Cavan ranks fourth lowest in country for business closures
A new study reveals Cavan ranks fourth for the lowest number of business closures in 2025, with 23 closures recorded per 100,000 people.
According to CRO data of more than 3,250 business closures recorded across Ireland in 2025 to date, 19 businesses have closed in Cavan so far in 2025.
Each county’s closure rate was calculated per 100,000 people, based on the most recent population estimates from the Central Statistics Office.
Along with Cavan, counties Mayo (18.1), Kilkenny (21.1), Offaly (22.9) and and Laois (23.9) also had low numbers of businesses shutting up shop.
The county with the most business closures in Ireland per 100,000 people was Dublin (121.04).
Next with almost half that figure is Louth (60.8), followed by Clare (60.2), neighbours Meath (55.7), and Wicklow (52).
