Charged with accessing child pornography
A Book of Evidence has been served on a Cavan man charged with accessing child sexual abuse material.
Otherwise known as pornography under the Act, the man who cannot be named as a result of reporting restrictions, appeared before Judge Raymond Finnegan at a recent sitting of Cavan District Court.
Aged in his late 20s, the man is charged with “knowingly” obtaining access to the material by means of information or communication technology.
He is charged with two counts of the same offence, which is alleged to have occurred at two separate locations months apart.
Occurring in a county outside of Cavan, the charges relate to date in November 2022 and in February of the following year, 2023.
Evidence of service of the Book of Evidence on the accused was provided by Garda Peter Guckian.
Sergeant Damien Galligan told the judge that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had directed for the defendant to be sent forward for trial to the next sessions of Cavan Circuit Court.
There was no objection to the defendant being remanded on continuing bail on the same conditions as before.
Judge Finnegan provided the accused with an alibi warning, before granting legal aid to cover the appointment of Damien Rudden as solicitor and one legal counsel.
