'Conserve water' notice issued to Cavan
As the warm, dry weather looks set to continue for at least the next seven days, Uisce Éireann has issued an appeal to the people of Cavan to help reduce water use. Uisce Éireann is appealing to everyone in Co. Cavan to be mindful of their use of water by following some simple steps. The appeal comes as over 20 supplies around the country are officially in drought status across counties Limerick, Kerry, Tipperary, Waterford, Cork, Clare, Galway, Donegal, Meath, Westmeath, Carlow, Waterford and Wexford. These include three supplies where Water Conservation Orders have been in place since May 6th - Kells-Oldcastle, Co Meath, Mullingar, Co Westmeath and Milford, Co Donegal. In a statement to The ’Celt today (Friday) Uisce Éireann said: “While there are no immediate plans to extend the hosepipe bans to other areas, we are monitoring all supplies closely and taking measures to maintain normal supplies through interventions such as tankering to reservoirs, nighttime restrictions and pressure management.”Margaret Attridge, Uisce Éireann’s Head of Water Operations, said: “We’re doing everything we can to protect and maintain supplies as we go through the summer but we’re also asking the public for their help by doing what they can to reduce their use.”To help people learn more about saving water Uisce Éireann has developed an easy-to-use conservation calculator so they can work out how much water they are currently saving and how they can conserve even more. The calculator is available at www.water.ie/calculator where there are also lots of useful water saving tips.
