Raffle generates big interest

Mullahoran GFC is organising a fundraiser for its underage teams and is set to raffle a generator worth over €8,000 over the June bank holiday weekend.

Youth chairman, Michael Fagan, is hoping for a big community support to finance balls, bibs, jerseys and other equipment constantly undergoing wear and tear.

First prize is a 11 kVa Diesel generator, kindly sponsored ROR Tractor Parts.

The brainwave for the fundraiser and prize followed Storm Eowyn, when many homes and businesses in the locality were left without power for weeks, and there was a run on generators in local retailers.

With more extreme weather events expected to occur more frequently, the demand for such generators is strong.

“After the storm, it’s what’s on people’s mind a lot, so we thought a strong generator that can run the house and shower would be well appreciated as first prize,” explains Michael.

From U6 to U16, all Mullahoran boys have a team to play for. Soon the club will become a dual club, with the ladies teams and LGFA falling in under the One Club model.

The second prize has been donated by Cavan Hygiene and Safety Supplies. The family owned business has provided two tickets to the Robbie Williams concert in Croke Park along with 250 Euro spending money. 3rd prize is a €500 voucher for Center Parcs. Cllr. Philip Brady is one of the sponsors. The prizes appeal to different people, which will ideally result in more uptake, hopes the youth committee.

Raffle tickets will be sold in the local shops directly or can be accessed via the QR-code on the posters, on winagenerator.ie and tickets will also be on sale this Saturday on the Market Square in Cavan Town.

Single tickets cost €10, three tickets are €20 and ten tickets €50.

“Every contribution is appreciated,” says the chairman.

On Sunday June 1, the winning tickets will be drawn by a surprise guest in Miscíns Pub in Kilcogy on what promises to be a fun community gathering.
