Emma Kane with baby James, Daniel Downey and Damian McCarney of Killykeen Conservation Group welcome everyone to Killykeen Forest Park this Saturday afternoon for the park's first ever Street Feast.

All welcome to Killykeen Forest Park for Street Feast

Locals and lovers of Killykeen Forest Park are welcome to come along for a fun, family friendly StreetFeast.

Killykeen Conservation Group, a community of voluntary carers for this space at the heart of County Cavan is organising the free event.

National street feasts, run by www.streetfeast.ie are opportunities for communities to focus their care in a particular space to help build community links, neighbourly care and enjoy their company and that of their area.

This is the heart of what Killykeen Conservation Group want to achieve with their free event. Following on from their highly successful Winter Solstice event (pictured above) this will also host local entertainment, including live trad music, activities for children and more.

Taking place at 'the beach' on the Killeshandra side of the footbridge on Saturday, May 24, the fun starts at 2pm with music and food sharing. At 2.45pm there will be storytelling, and then there will be live trad music from 3.30pm.

Meath-born film maker Elaine Gallagher, who visited the Solstice event, noted “Killykeen boasts some amazing walks, lovely scenery and the local tombs are intriguing and interesting.”

To bring about a greater appreciation of this place, The Killykeen Conservation Group aim to work in partnership with key stakeholders to highlight the beauty of this natural amenity to Cavan’s local heritage.

The May 24 StreetFeast will be a key opportunity to do just that. Group member Daniel Downey said, “I was brought here as a baby over 40 years ago, learned to swim here over 30y years ago.

“Killykeen is part of our DNA in Cavan and we’re proud and protective of our forest park.”

He urged members of the Cavan public and visitors to join the StreetFeast either via the Killykeen Conservation Group’s Facebook page or by turning up on the day for a simple cuppa and a chat.

The StreetFeast will take place between 2-6pm on Saturday, May 24. Attendees are advised to bring along a blanket, snacks and chat.
