Building on success at CICS Silo Clean

Thanks to CICS Silo Clean, sponsors in our Community & Sports Awards...

It was one of the most memorable moments to emerge from the 2024 Anglo-Celt Business & Tourism Awards, the CICS SiloClean Ltd team jumping and cheering before rushing the stage to collect the title for ‘Excellence in Customer Service’.

“To anyone there, you could see how much it meant to us, as a team,” says Ruth Tidy King, CICS SiloClean Ltd Company Director. “Especially on a local level, how much people appreciate the work and effort you and the team put in. It’s lovely to get recognition for that.”

In business for more than 50 years, CICS was founded by Ruth’s father Ron Tidy who started out cleaning windows after holidaying from West London to Cavan in 1971. In the half century since, the family-run business has developed as a cornerstone of the Cavan business community, a testament to its consistency of performance and dedication to unrivalled innovation.

As such CICS has been recognised “time and time again” for its achievements.

After claiming top prize for ‘Excellence in Customer Service’ in 2024, CICS subsequently went on to be nominated as finalist in three categories at the 2024 Family Business Awards - for ‘Sustainable Family Business of the Year’; the ‘Family Business CSR’; and the ‘Innovative Family Business’ award - coming away with the latter gong. They previously scooped Gold in the Best in Innovation category, and this is on top of a number of other significant professional accolades earned in recent years - including three ISO certifications in Quality Management; Environmental Management; and Health & Safety Management.

Now CICS is looking to give something back, and the firm is doing so by sponsoring the ‘Outstanding Achievement’ award in the sport categories of The Anglo-Celt Community & Sports Awards 2025.

“It’s an honour,” says Ruth, who congratulated each of the worthy candidates on their respective achievements over the past year.

Nominees range from the record-breaking eleventh All-Ireland handball title winning Paul Brady to four-time All-Ireland final referee Joe McQuillan from Kill. Then there is Cavan Rugby club, celebrating 50 years since their formation, a half century littered with glory; and finally Cavan woman Brenda O’Keefe, who hopes to complete her 600th marathon come August despite battling incurable bone marrow cancer.

Ruth says the nominees’ respective achievements show a path for others, and provide a benchmark for future generations to come to aspire to.

That “journey” is something similar to the road taken by CICS in setting professional standards as specialists in high-access and confined-space cleaning serving key industries such as dairy, grain, and pharma, while delivering on a commitment to sustainability and integrity.

Community involvement has also always been an important part of CICS’s core identity and the legacy, started with Ron a half a century ago, was built on bravery, resilience, innovation, and a vision and ability to embrace new opportunity.

CICS now employs close to 60 people locally. Some of the staff working with the company have been there 20 years and more.

“They’re brilliant. We know them, we know their families. It’s kind of like a little mini community in itself. None of the success we’ve had as a company could have been achieved without them. They say it takes a village. I think that’s very important because even with a sports person or team, it’s not just about the players on the pitch, but the coaches on the sideline, the sponsors, and mams and dads cheering them on, putting out cones or doing runs between matches and making teas,” shares Ruth.

She adds: “We’ve received so much support and recognition over the years as a business. Sponsoring an award is a small way that allows us to give back, to help shine a spotlight on others and give recognition they’re making a difference.”
