Murder accused sent for trial
Book served on man accused of stabbing his mother
A book of evidence has been served on a man accused of murdering his mother at the rural west Cavan home they shared earlier this year.
Danny Heyneman (31) of Kilnavart, Ballyconnell, appeared before Cavan District Court yesterday (Tuesday).
He is charged with murdering his 55-year-old mum Annie on Saturday, January 11, 2025.
He is also charged with the attempted murder of his father Henk arising from the same alleged incident.
Members of the Heyneman family were present in court yesterday.
Detective Sergeant Walsh gave evidence of the book in the case being served on the accused.
Judge Raymond Finnegan was told the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had directed for Mr Heyneman to be sent forward for trial by indictment to the current sittings of the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.
He issued the defendant with an alibi warning, meaning if he intends to use an alibi as part of his defence, he must notify the prosecution within 14 days.
The defendant was represented in court by Joseph Smith BL, instructed by solicitor Damien Rudden.
An application was made for legal aid to be extended to cover the experience of a consultant forensic psychologist, as well as for a psychological assessment to be carried out and for a report.
Mr Heyneman was remanded in custody to Dublin’s Cloverhill Prison.
