Cavan's Aaron Monaghan to star in Abbey Theatre production
CAVAN actor, Aaron Monaghan, is back on stage at The Abbey Theatre from this Friday.
He will star as one of the McRae brothers in a production of The Cave by renowned playwright, Kevin Barry.
Aaron will star alongside Tommy Tiernan and Judith Roddy in the production, at the National Theatre of Ireland, The Abbey.
Described as an “unforgettable black comedy”, The Cave is set in the mountains of south Sligo and is a story about rural Ireland and life on the fringes of society.
We meet Bopper McRae played by Aaron and his brother, Archie, sleeping rough in a cave and in trouble with the law. Bopper and Archie are running out of road as the local sergeant who, throughout the play, is getting more and more entangled in their lives.
Of course, Aaron is known for TV roles in The Banshees of Innisherin, Assasin’s Creed and ’71. His acclaimed recent roles include Estragon in Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, the title role in William Shakespeare’s Richard III, and Lopakhin in Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard.
Kevin Barry previously wrote City of Bohane and Night Boat to Tangier.
The Cave runs at The Abbey from this Friday, June 6 until Friday, June 18. For more information and to book tickets to see one of Cavan’s own visit: abbeytheatre.ie
