Kathy Durkin Golf Classic still going strong

The proceeds of the 2024 Kathy Durkin Charity Golf Classic were presented recently with St Christopher's Hospice, Cavan and Monaghan, the beneficiary of the proceeds - €38,170.

St Christopher’s Hospice has been providing care to patients since 1992 and recently turned the sod on its new extension project on the Loreto Road, Cavan. The completion of the new extension will provide extra beds and facilities to patients by the end of 2026.

The golf classic itself took place in August last year at the Slieve Russell Hotel & Golf Resort with 40 teams taking part. It has become a popular event with golfers in the annual fundraising calendar - going strong for the last 32 years. The winners on the day were the Paddy Leddy Tyres team from Butlersbridge.

With the classic completed, as ever, Kathy put together a cabaret and dance on the night with some of the top Irish entertainment including Gerry Guthrie and his band, Olivia Douglas, Richie Hayes and of course, Kathy and Andreas Durkin. The party finished into the wee small hours with songs and music a plenty!

Kathy extended her thanks to the events main sponsor, the Bailie Hotel, owned by Austin and Kathleen Kelly. Other major sponsors were Wilton Waste, Interparts Cavan, the Imperial and Metric Bars, and Harte Peat, Clones.

"The event would not be possible if it weren’t for many people, who every year, give their time and help towards the golf classic," she said, thanking all the sponsors, performers and those who participated or supported in any way.

In particular she praised Helen Dolan and Ber Walsh who looked after the registration desk and the team at the Slieve Russell & PGA National.

Already, the 2025 Kathy Durkin Golf Classic is in planning mode and will take place at the PGA National – Slieve Russell Hotel on Monday, August 18, and this year’s beneficiary will be the Cavan Autism Parents Support (CAPS) group.
