Food, fun and flair at Cavan's Cottage Market
Cavan’s Summer Cottage Market returns next weekend when over 50 local vendors specialising in artisan food, crafts and art will showcase their exceptional skills.
Once again, the open-air summer market will be held in the grounds of Con Smith Park in Cavan Town.
In the food court, you will find the Created in Cavan producers of honey, cheese, ice cream, cakes and locally crafted cordials.
The Dine Yard will be filled with the smells of street food vendors selling both sweet and savoury dishes. An outdoor seated area means locals and visitors can kick back and relax to the sights, sounds and smells.
You can support local artists at the Craft and Art Marquee where around 20 Cavan crafters and artists display their work with music on both days of the event provided by Cavan musicians.
Apart from the exciting and varied food offering, other activities will include yoga and pilates sessions.
New art installations promise to bring magic and beauty to the park including ‘Fairy Trails of Cavan’ by Debbie Gubiotti. This hidden trail invites you to follow an interactive guide through nature.
‘Flower Power’ is a striking sculpture by Rosie Cole, which celebrates the beauty of flowers but also offers a peaceful spot for visitors to sit and relax.
New to this year’s Cottage Market is the School of Homesteading. This initiative is a series of short, practical demos and talks by experts who will share their traditional skills and sustainable living know-how with the community.
Meanwhile, the dedicated kids’ area Playful Park will be buzzing with activity and fun with plenty of hands-on experiences and free creative activities for young people under 18 being laid on by Cruinniú na nÓg.
Visitors are encouraged to walk or cycle to Con Smith Park and even bring along a picnic blanket to enjoy the food prepared by the many vendors and kick back in our “outdoor summer”.
This free, open-air event is being delivered by The Cottage Market Cavan and supported by Created in Cavan, This is Cavan and Cavan County Council. It will run over two days on Saturday and Sunday, June 7-8, from 12 noon on both days with parking available in nearby Cavan Institute on the Cathedral Road.
