Green light for 20 more units in Cavan
The next stage of a planned multi-million euro revamp and development at St Brigid's Terrace in Cavan Town has been sanctioned by councillors.
Already 20 new modern and energy-efficient homes have been built overlooking the Dublin Road after eight existing derelict and vacant properties were knocked.
The latest phase - to demolish seven houses, numbers 13-19 inclusive, came up for approval at the Cavan-Belturbet Municipal District meeting in Ballyconnell last week.
Like before, the development aims to deliver 20 own-door residential units split in two blocks. Block A will be two-storeys high and incorporate four, two-bed apartments at ground floor level and four more one-bed apartments on the first-floor.
Block B will be three-storey high and comprise six two-bed duplex units at lower ground and ground floor level, and six one-bed apartments at first-floor level.
Car parking and bicycle parking provision, pedestrian access steps connecting Dublin Road and the LP 6623 (road at rear of existing St Brigid’s Terrace), public lighting and services are all included in the plans.
Environment reports and screenings were conducted as part of the planning process, engineer Tommy Reilly explained to councillors.
There were no submissions during the public consultation phase.
Mr Reilly noted that the Chief Executive Eoin Doyle was satisfied that the proposal was “proper and sustainable” and in line with the ambitions of the County Development Plan 2022-28. There were three conditions to the development, regarding a change to windows on one side of the premises; that the council agree connection times with Irish Water; and an agreement on external finishes.
Fianna Fáil's John Paul Feeley proposed planning permission for the development, seconded by Sinn Féin's Damien Brady.
