Tullyvin's musical earns four AIMS Award nominations
Tullyvin Musical Society is in the running for four prestigious national awards for their impressive staging of Oklahoma!
The spectacular musical garnered a wave of recognition at this year’s Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) Awards.
Performed to sold-out audiences over five nights last October at Tullyvin Community Centre, the production was deemed a resounding success.
Stephen Hannigan has been short-listed for ‘Best Stage Manager’, Dave McGauran for the ‘Best Musical Director’, and the society is also in the running for Best House Management. Meanwhile Chair of Tullyvin Musical Society, Jackie McQuillan has been shortlisted for the Mary Kelly Unsung Hero Award.
The awards celebrate the exceptional talent and dedication behind musical theatre productions throughout Ireland, and will be held Saturday, June 14, in the Gleneagle INEC Arena in Killarney.
Across the history of the musical society the local group has received four nominations in total- so this year has seen them double that tally.
“Over the past decade, from our very first production of Calamity Jane to the vibrant energy of Oklahoma!, this society has grown from a hopeful idea into a celebrated community force,” said Jackie McQuillan. “None of this would have been possible without the tireless dedication of our hardworking committees, the enthusiasm and talent of all our past and present members who’ve graced the stage, and the unwavering support of our wonderful local community - those who show up year after year to help behind the scenes and keep the show on the road.”
Jackie expressed “heartfelt” gratitude to the local businesses who provided generous sponsorship, Cavan County Council for their ongoing support, and “most importantly to our loyal patrons—who travel from near and far to attend our productions. Your applause, your encouragement, and your presence mean more than words can express.”
The society is especially proud to achieve this recognition as a rural group.
“This June 14th, in the Gleneagle INEC Arena in Killarney, the name Tullyvin Musical Society will ring out not once, but four times before an audience of 1,200 musical society members from across the country—and thousands more tuning in via livestream.
“For the only rural musical society in Ireland to be so widely recognised is an extraordinary achievement, and a moment of immense pride for us all. It is yet another testament to the sheer quality and calibre of the productions we have consistently delivered, and the power of a small community coming together with big hearts and even bigger ambition,” she said.
