The 50 Mile Challenge commences at Moylagh Community Centre in Meath at 6am on 7th June 2025.

All roads lead to (and from) Moylagh for the annual JFK 50 Mile Challenge

Hundreds of walkers from all over the country are expected to take part in annual JFK 50 Mile Challenge in Moylagh which returns for its 14th year on 7th June.

Last year, over 800 participants took on the gruelling challenge, pushing their limits in this unique endurance event and 226 determined walkers made it to the 50 mile finish line.

The commitment of all the participants helped raise a staggering €163,000 for the Irish Cancer Society, LARCC and Palliative care

Starting at 6am at Moylagh Community Centre, Dromone, Oldcastle, participants walk, jog or run 50 miles in a single day - not for medals or trophies, but to raise awareness and funds for local causes that change lives.

From first-time walkers to seasoned athletes, participants walk for many reasons - in memory of a loved one, standing in solidarity with those currently fighting cancer, or simply ready for a personal challenge .

There is absolutely no requirement to walk 50 miles – you can walk whatever you wish and feel comfortable with and the big thing that most people do not realise is that where ever you stop , one of the many volunteers along the way, will bring you back to your car where you started.

Behind the scenes, a dedicated committee of local organisers works year-round to ensure every detail is perfect, from coordinating food and water stops to managing people's safety and securing road permits. Working hand-in-hand with them is an army of volunteers who donate their time with tireless energy and genuine smiles, whether they’re manning water stations, bringing participants back to their cars, or cleaning up the next day.

Water, food and toilet facilities are provided all along the route.

The event would be possible without the efforts of the committee and the community spirt of the Moylagh people , which was recently recognised by an appearance on the popular Nationwide programme in early March.

Participants are asked to raise €50 and can be assured all of this money goes directly to the three charities. The event welcomes all with open arms - you don’t have to be an athlete—just someone with heart, grit, and a pair of good walking shoes.

The roads around North Meath, Cavan and Westmeath will come alive at dawn on 7th June with determination and camaraderie for this extraordinary endurance event which is a celebration of community spirit, giving, and what can happen when people come together for a common cause.

The walk starts at 6 am sharp at Moylagh Community Centre, Domone, Oldcastle, Co. Meath A82 RP74 and you can registrer at 50milechallenge.ie
