Sheelin Nursing Home - bringing care to another level

“The carers at the Sheelin Nursing Home are the backbone of everything we do,” a spokesperson said, “I think it’s fair to say they do more than what is perceived.

“Sheelin prides itself on bringing care to another level, setting a standard to be very proud of and, in my opinion, should be admired for.

“Every day at Sheelin, each member of staff provides comfort, joy, security, empathy, compassion and friendship to residents and their families.

“One of the things that sets Sheelin apart, however, is the way that ethos of care and compassion for its residents is extended to each other as well.”

Describing the staff as “part of the fabric” of the home, the manager said, “it feels to me that for our carers, going to their job every day is like coming home and looking after members of their own family”.

The staff at Sheelin offer consistency, a familiar face, a friend by every residents’ side.

Some of those who have given years of dedication at Sheelin include Sheila Goldrick, who has led the way for 19 years, Peggy Galligan, 18 years; David Murray, Angela Harten, Anna Galligan who have all worked together for 12 years and Sijo Devasia who has given 11 years’ service.

“Over the years, these valued members of staff support each other and mentor new staff into their caring ways and work ethic,” according to management.

“These colleagues have laughed and cried together, celebrate each other and have become family for each other.

“The bond they have is immeasurable. And it shows in their work with residents.”

Louise Knight’s mum is a resident at Sheelin Nursing Home. She had this to say of their experience: “The nursing and caring staff carry out their duties with patience, love and kindness, with extreme attention to my mum.

“My mum is looked after just like she would be within her family unit.

“The cosy, loving, and friendly atmosphere present in the Sheelin Nursing home, for me, means it truly does earn its title “A home away from home to its residents”.
