Cavan artist on Royal Hibernian Academy turf

The work of Cavan based ceramic artist Eimear Crowe, inspired by boglands in west Cavan, will be showcased at the 195th RHA Annual Exhibition in Dublin.

The Royal Hibernian Academy is home to Ireland’s largest and longest-running exhibition of visual art, and Eimear's inclusion is a huge boost. The exhibition features painting, print, sculpture, drawing, photography, mixed media and architectural models.

Until August 3, visitors can view works by Irish-based artists who were successful in the highly competitive open submission process. 2025 saw a total of 4,565 works submitted, from which, following two rigorous, anonymous rounds of selection, only 422 pieces were accepted.

Eimear says what makes her inclusion even more special is the fact that the judging panel consisted of 11 artists. Her work, having been selected by peers, is a big recognition of her artistic talent.

Her work 'Bogmudra2' now features in the gallery beside St Stephen’s Green.

“The sheer variety is extraordinary”, says an excited Eimear, who was allowed to see the exhibition alongside her family and other artists before the official opening.

She draws her inspiration from the beautiful landscape of Fartrin Bog near Ballyconnell. Her ceramic sculptural work references the bog's unique biodiversity and social history. Eimear’s work primarily uses hand-built clay techniques with applied coloured slips and glazes. Her work considers the fragilities of the human condition, landscape and culture.

For the first time in 195 years, two female curators, Vera Klute and Dr Abigail O Brien, were overseeing the exhibition. As a mother and female artist, Eimear was thankful that O’Brien addressed the inequalities and challenges that exist for female artists in the art world in Ireland and internationally in this year's exhibition catalogue. “A topic that is inextricably linked to my experience of being an artist!”, says Eimear.

The annual RHA Exhibition celebrates creativity, innovation, and accessibility in the arts, supporting both established and emerging artists in their pursuit of excellence. Because of the variety of art-pieces, the RHA is a highly recommended exhibition catering for all interests.
